About space coloring pages

Rockets, astronauts, planets, moons, stars and friendly aliens fill the space section. These pages let children imagine flying far beyond the sky, and they are a fun way to learn the names of the planets and the shapes of the Moon. Easy space coloring pages have a big rocket or a round planet, while tricky ones add space stations, craters and starry backgrounds.

Space pages look striking with a dark background. Try coloring the sky dark blue, purple or black, leave the stars white, then use bright colors for the rocket and planets so they pop. Metallic or glitter gel pens make a nice finishing touch. While coloring, share a simple fact. The Sun is a star, Earth is the third planet from the Sun, and Saturn is famous for its rings. Kids may also enjoy hearing about NASA and the Apollo 11 mission, when astronauts first walked on the Moon, and then designing a rocket of their own ready for launch.

Questions parents and teachers ask

How many planets are in our solar system?

There are eight planets. In order from the Sun they are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. A fun way to remember them is to color each planet differently and line them up in order on the wall.

What colors should I use for space pictures?

Dark blue, purple or black work well for the sky, with stars left white or colored yellow. Mars is reddish, Jupiter has orange and cream stripes, and Earth is blue and green. Rockets can be any color your child likes.

Who was the first person to walk on the Moon?

American astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the Moon, on July 20, 1969, during NASA's Apollo 11 mission. Buzz Aldrin joined him a few minutes later. Coloring a rocket or an astronaut is a nice way to share that story.
