About under the sea coloring pages

The ocean is full of shapes that children love to color: round fish, curly octopus arms, spiky starfish, wavy seaweed and big, gentle whales. Under the sea coloring pages can show a single fish for little ones or a busy coral reef with bubbles, shells and sea turtles for older kids who enjoy more detail.

These pages give children a chance to use every shade of blue and green they own. Try coloring the water light blue first, then the sea creatures in brighter colors so they stand out. Real reef fish come in yellow, orange, purple and striped patterns, so children can be as bold as they like and still be right. Ask simple questions as you go. Which animals have fins? Which ones have shells? How do fish breathe under water? Finished pictures look great glued onto a sheet of blue construction paper to make an ocean wall, with paper waves along the bottom and a few cotton-ball clouds above.

Questions parents and teachers ask

How do fish breathe under water?

Fish take in water through their mouths and pass it over their gills. The gills take oxygen out of the water, so fish do not need to come up for air. Whales and dolphins are different: they are mammals and swim to the surface to breathe.

What colors are real sea creatures?

Many reef fish are bright yellow, orange, blue or striped. Starfish can be orange, red or purple, octopuses can change their color, and sea turtles are mostly green and brown. Children can use real colors or invent their own.

What can kids make with under the sea pages?

Color several creatures, cut them out and glue them onto blue construction paper to make an ocean scene. Add strips of green paper for seaweed. Hung on string from a stick or a coat hanger, the cutouts also make a simple mobile.

How many under the sea coloring pages are there?

Which under the sea coloring pages are best for toddlers?
